Tip

Winning a contest is an opportunity to let readers know more about you. Even a small contest win may be news to you hometown newspapers. Even a runner-up poisition is something to crow about. Contests are one of the easiest ways to make news. Check out small ones like the Noble (Not Nobel!) )Prize at MyShelf.com

Sites That Disseminate Media Releases, Some FREE, Some Affordable

This list is reproduced from The Frugal Book Promoter and was updated on 3/06/07

Many of these sites offer tutorials in writing media releases. You will also find step-by-step (right down to the font and spacing!) directions for writing a release in The Frugal Book Promoter: How to Do What Your Publisher Won't.  Be aware that many of these sites require your address to login and many of those will not accept PO Boxes. Almost all require a phone number.

http://www.i-newswire.com/submit_free.php

http://www.press-base.com/add-press.html  (Requires company phone listing.)

http://www.pressbox.co.uk/cgi-bin/links/add.cgi (Lets you preview your release.)

http://www.news.eboomwebsolutions.com/addnews.php

http://free-news-release.com/Submit.aspx

http://www.free-press-release.com/submit/free-press-release.php (Active e-mail address permitted for paid accounts only.)

https://www.pr.com/info_press_item.php  (Don't bother to enter image if you don't intend to upgrade your submission.)

www.press.arrivenet.com (Extensive signin required and you'll need to wait for your e-mail confirmation.)

www.pressmethod.com (Difficult to sign on and if you don't upgrade the service, your release doesn't get much distribution, including submission to Google.)

www.prfree.com

www.prleap.com (One of the easiest to negotiate but requires your phone number.)

www.prweb.com (As nearly as I can tell, this site no longer offers free service.)

www.webwire.com (If you are submitting a release for a minor event and only want the free service, you may have time getting it for free!)

http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/ (Bills itself as "affordable." I could find no free option.)

http://ebookbroadcast.com/submit.shtml (Closed for renovation on 3/6/07.)

sites.http://www.epressreleases.org/index.htm (One of the easiest sites to use.)

http://www.prnuke.com/ (This site feels as if you can post articles as well as media releases and is a bit hard to get signed up on. It is relatively easier after you've once collected your password.)

http://www.press-world.com/

http://www.theopenpress.com/index.php?a=book (Registration not available because of a hacker. The site may be back up soon. Information entered 3/7/07.)

http://www.fastpitch.com  (I liked that those who post can choose some of the media outlets they provide. That his requires an upgrade may well be worth it for a major, truly newsworthy event.)

Some of the above sites were suggested by Kristie Leigh Maguire, publisher of Star Publish.

Sites That Disseminate Content (Articles) for the Use of the Media

Also Called Content Providers

Letting your articles, essays, humor and more work for you rather than moldering in a drawer can be good business for an author. Here are some sites that cater to those with a need for content. The author supplies the article complete with byline and a tagline that includes a pitch and web address and an editor searching for just such an article may use it.  Each works in a slightly different way so you'll want to explore them to see where your material fits best.

A novellete for actors. A book that teaches and motivates through storytelling rather than dry text material.  Dick and Jane move to Hollywood to pursue their dreams. One hasn't a clue and just wants to get discovered while the other makes reasoned choices and finds success!
